Firefighters Memorial Day Remembers Heroic Firefighters

All QHS staff are well aware of the amazing job the Firefighters in the UK do as QHS gas engineers undertake the required 12 monthly Landlord Gas Safety Record checks for it's clients, plus QHS electricians carry out Electrical Installation Condition Reports and they along with trained QHS Gas service engineers also carry out safety inspections on smoke alarms and Carbon Monoxide alarms during scheduled heating system service visits.

UK Firefighters have and do sadly lose their lives fighting fires. Everyone has heard of the Great Fire of London which occurred on 2nd September 1666, but not everyone may know that 19 Firefighters lost their lives fighting the inferno that followed the start of the fire in Pudding Lane. During the London Blitz and during World War II, 1027 fireman and over 24 firewomen died in the line of duty during the war.

Every time Firefighters go into high-rise buildings to fight fires and to save lives they put their own life and safety at risk. The most tragic 21st Century example of this reality is that 344 firefighters died heroically trying to save those trapped in the Twin-Towers on 9/11 in 2001. Sadly, since then there have been and will be multiple other occasions where firefighters lose their lives or find themselves seriously injured trying to rescue and protect us.

We can all help fire prevention in many ways including:

  • Ensuring our smoke alarms are working correctly
  • All our electrical items are safe and regularly checked
  • Getting an Annual Gas Safety Check yearly to maintain gas safety

Help keep our fire heroes safe by keeping ourselves and our homes safe.

QHS trained engineers are able to identity smoke alarms and Carbon Monoxide alarms requiring upgrade or replacement during a routine visit, leading to safer homes, better and swifter compliance, whilst reducing disruption for residents. Please remember that safety starts at home.
