Peter Tillotson Celebrates 50 Years In The Gas Industry
Peter started his 50 year journey in the Gas Industry on 2nd July 1973 when he was employed by British Gas North Eastern (BGNE) as an Apprentice Gas Fitter, based at New Wortley in Leeds. He then attended Leeds College of Building for 3 years, obtaining City & Guilds Intermediate and Final Certificates in Gas Fitting. As a result, he was then able to qualify as a Gas Fitter in 1976.
He soon progressed to be a Gas Service Engineer, then not long after to be a Service Technician, then latterly to be a Service Supervisor (in 1980), whilst continuing his further education (gas utilisation related) for another 6 years.
In October 1982 he started studying for a BSc Degree in Natural Gas Engineering (Utilisation) at Salford University for 4 years. Peter graduated in 1986 with First Class Honours. He was subsequently awarded the Charles Hunt Memorial medal by the Institution of Gas Engineers as a result.
In May 1988 he moved from BGNE to British Gas Southern (BGS) as a Service Operations Manager based in Aylesbury. Then in May 1990 Peter moved from BGS to British Gas North Thames. He was a British Gas Service Manager, based in Harrow, from September 1991 to December 1994, when Peter left British Gas by way of a voluntary redundancy agreement.
In January 1995 he established Quality Heating Services Limited (QHS), which he is proud to say he has since been operating for over 28 years. In 1996 QHS was awarded its first social housing contract with Network Housing Association, since when it has gone from strength to strength.
In 1997 QHS became BS5750 (now ISO 9001) accredited for their Quality Management System. Sometime later in 2008 with Peter at the helm as Managing Director QHS became OnStream's (part of National Grid) largest gas and electric meter installation service provider, employing over 200 operatives.
On 2nd July 2023 Peter celebrated the impressive milestone of having spent 50 years in the Gas Industry, and in under 2 years' time on 26th January 2025, QHS will be celebrating its 30th Anniversary, thanks to the longevity of service of his loyal staff, clients and customers.
