QHS New Communal Boilers Project at Harrow Weald

In the Spring and early Summer of 2020 QHS were appointed by Harrow Borough Council to carry out work at Harrow Weald in the main plant room. The project itself was a substantial one to renew boilers and supply pipework to each individual block. The project commenced on Monday 23rd March 2020 and consisted of three phases:

Phase 1: QHS qualified Gas Safe Installers replaced and renewed the main plant room boilers and supply pipework to each individual block.

Phase 2: The 2nd phase was about the installation of the boiler that supplies heating and hot water for 4 flats, numbers 29 to 32. During this phase QHS also installed a boiler and renewed all pipework in the community hall.

Phase 3: Phase 3 involved the installation of a boiler in flat 28 which was above the community hall. QHS also undertook the re-running of all of the flats internal pipework and radiators in Phase 3.

The work at Harrow Weald was suspended on site from late March 2020 for some time due to COVID-19. As soon as it became safe to do so, with full PPE being worn and social distancing taking place, QHS gas engineers were able to enter the flats and continue the work on site until safe completion.

Boiler Works at Boothman House

QHS carried out planned maintenance at Boothman House, which started on Thursday 14 February 2019. We installed two brand new communal gas fired boilers, providing heating and hot water to the residents of the block.

Thursday 14 February 2019 - Over 2-3 weeks, Boothman House received new gas boilers as part of a scheduled system update.

Friday 15 February 2019 - AM: Good news - the first new boiler went online. We expected the second new boiler to come online by the end of the day, which thankfully it was.

Friday 15 February 2019 -  PM: Two new boilers are now up and running, after the second boiler went online successfully this afternoon. A third boiler was hung on the wall by QHS installers, and this 3rd boiler went online early the following week.

The day has gone smoothly, perhaps helped by the sun showing up this afternoon! With two boilers up and running, we don't expect any issues over the weekend, as the system is working as it should.

Tuesday 19th February 2019 - AM: Scaffolding went up at Boothman House. This enabled us to install the new boiler flue system.

Tuesday 19 February 2019 - PM: The old boilers were removed from site, and the block is running entirely on the new system.

Wednesday 20 February 2019 -  All boilers are up and running and the electrics are working as they should. All that remained to be completed was putting the external section of the boiler flue in place, which was done in a timely fashion.

Monday 25 February 2019 - Work was totally completed in the boiler house. We are pleased with the results and hope that everyone else is too.

Throughout the installtions QHS operatives tried to minimise disruption to residents heating and hot water as much as possible. However, on some brief occassions we did need to turn off the hot water supply so that we could install new parts. We were pleased that any disruption was only for a short period of time.
